ADVANCED DIRECTIVES

If this information is unknown, it should be a topic for the entire family to discuss as soon
as a diagnosis has been given. An advance directive is a legal document that ensures
that your healthcare wishes will be respected if you become unable to communicate those
wishes. And, it relieves your loved ones from the responsibility (and sometimes, guilt) of
making some very tough decisions on your behalf. This document consists of both a
living will and a medical (or durable) power-of-attorney

A living will is a legal document that expresses your wishes and allows you to maintain
control over your end-of-life medical treatment if you are unable to make decisions or
speak for yourself.
