to discuss as soon as a diagnosis has been given. An advance directive is a legal document that ensures that your healthcare wishes will be respected if you become unable to communicate those wishes. And, it relieves your loved ones from the responsibility (and sometimes, guilt) of making some very tough decisions on your behalf.
